Obituary for Caswell Thompson
Carthage Republican - November 12, 1890
(under the heading "Basco")

"It becomes our painful duty to chronicle another fatal accident from our village this week. Caswell H. Thompson, one of our well-known citizens who was employed as bridge carpenter on the Carthage branch of the O.B.&Q., fell between two flat cars near Woodville Friday night and was instantly killed. They had been unloading bridge timbers at that place and as he was making his way to the caboose while the train was in motion, fell between the cars and his life was crushed out. Much sympathy is expressed for his wife and three little children who saw him go to his work at 7:00 o'clock in the evening in the health and spirits of vigorous manhood, brought home at 7:00 o'clock in the morning a mangled corpse in his coffin. It is indeed a sad blow to his afflicted family and friends."
