S. J. Hammond
Biography

S. J. Hammond is a native of Muskingum county, Ohio, and was born Sept. 6, 1839; son
of Moses and Elizabeth Hammond. His father was a native of Massachusetts, and his mother of Vermont. Our subject came to this
county in 1847 and settled in Wythe tp., where he has since resided, engaged in general farming. He has for several years been
engaged in horticulture, he and his brother having an orchard of 130 acres. Mr. Hammond owns a fine farm of 500 acres. He was
united in marriage Feb. 22, 1865, to Miss Emeline Chandler. This marriage was blessed with 8 children, of whom 6 are living; viz.,
Elizabeth, Julia E., Arthur R., Henrietta, Harley R. and John. Mr. Hammond was the enrolling officer of this township during the
last war.
