William and Deborah Metcalf. William along with his brother-in-law, Samuel Dickinson, built the first Hancock County Jail in Carthage, Illinois. William and Deborah were married in Mount Mellick, Ireland on June 16, 1828 and sailed for America shortly thereafter. They lived in Utica and Chittenango, New York a few years. They came to Hancock County, Illinois in 1837 with George and Jane Langford.
